Monitoring, analyzing, managing, and diagraming a network can often be a huge problem for Network and System Administrators. They are often vendor specific or cost large sums of money to license. We also have the challenge of so many different network infrastructures, like Wi-Fi and wired.

If you are looking for a tool that may save you money, or is relatively vendor agnostic, you may find something useful in the following list below. All these tools can be essential to troubleshooting network issues, as well as learning how the network works.
We have expanded the list to include some other essential tools as well.
Not all these tools are perfect, nor all encompassing. You may need to use some in combination depending on your needs.
Below, I have compiled a list of tools below that may be possible solutions. They are in no particular order per se. I did put Wi-Fi stuff in the middle and stand alone, application specific (sniffers, etc.) towards the end of the list.

Sensu Core uses service checks and event processing as the main building blocks of its monitoring solution. The services checks monitor resources usage such as memory, CPU utilization and bandwidth, and confirm whether a service such as a Web or database server is running. The services checks utilize the same specifications as Nagios, allowing the use of Nagios plugins. LinSSID is written from scratch entirely in C++ using Linux wireless tools and Qt4. It displays the information available from iwlist tool in graphical format. Angry IP scanner is a very fast IP address and port scanner. It can scan IP addresses in any range as well as any their ports. It is cross-platform and lightweight. Not requiring any installations, it can be freely copied and used anywhere.
Angry IP scanner simply pings each IP address to check if it’s alive, then optionally it is resolving its hostname, determines the MAC address, scans ports, etc. The amount of gathered data about each host can be extended with plugins.
It also has additional features, like NetBIOS information (computer name, workgroup name, and currently logged in Windows user), favorite IP address ranges, web server detection, customizable openers, etc. Scanning results can be saved to CSV, TXT, XML or IP-Port list files. iPerf3 is a tool for active measurements of the maximum achievable bandwidth on IP networks. This is a new implementation that shares no code with the original iPerf and also is not backwards compatible. iPerf was originally developed by NLANR/DAST. iPerf3 is principally developed by ESnet / Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. It is released under a three-clause BSD license.
